Is Chiefs newest WR Rashee Rice related to Jerry Rice?
Super Bowl LVII champions Kansas City Chiefs are the most of the 2023 NFL draft and it has turned out quite a treat to watch. Talking about the Chiefs, the defending World Champions lost most of their star receivers in the last two years and were in need of a guy to complement Travis Kelce.
Thankfully, the Chiefs drafted a wide receiver in the second round. They selected SMU wide receiver Rashee Rice 55th overall. The 6-1, 204-pounder receiver can fill in the gap perfectly left behind by JuJu Smith-Schuster.
This draft selection by Kansas City is gaining a lot of attention from fans and not just for his skills. Rashee shares his last name with legendary wide receiver Jerry Rice and fans are wondering if he is related to the San Francisco 49ers great. Let’s take a look if the two are related or not!

Unfortunately, the new addition to the Chiefs’ receiving core isn’t related to “World”. The two share only their last name and not the same blood. However, the Chiefs Kingdom can take solace in the fact that maybe Rashee might turn out to be a great receiver like Jerry Rice since they share their last name.
Jerry Rice was born October 13, 1962, in Starkville, Mississippi. He grew up with eight siblings and his father was a mason and his mother used to clean houses of wealthy families. Rice came from a humble background and initially didn’t play any sport. However, his principal once saw him sprint and was impressed by his speed and recommended him to the football coach. And the rest is well history.
Rashee Rice was born on April 22, 2000, in North Richland Hills, Texas. Not much is known about his family background. During his senior year at Southern Methodist University, Rashee caught for over 1000 yards and 10 touchdowns earning him All-AAC First Team.
What impact will Rashee Rice have on the Chiefs’ offense?
Rashee Rice will join Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Skyy Moore, Kadarius Toney, and Justin Watson as the new wide receiver of the Chiefs. All these are good stalwart receivers but none of them are included in the top 10. Moore sat out his rookie season due to an injury but his recent practice with Patrick Mahomes really impressed him and will be a WR1.
Rashee Rice has the perfect blend of size, length, and speed and can gain a sizeable lateral separation quickly. He works endlessly to keep cornerbacks at arm’s length and is very good at jumping and catching those high throws. Let’s see how he performs in his rookie season.
