Man sentenced up to life in prison for 2014 rape in Boise
BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — A California man was sentenced to serve 30 years fixed and up to life in prison for a rape that happened in 2014 in Boise.
Reginald Burley, 58, was indicted by a grand jury for rape and first-degree kidnapping shortly after the crimes were reported in November 2014.
A warrant was issued for Burley’s arrest, and Ada County Prosecutors learned that he had been arrested in January 2015 in his home state of California. Following his sentencing there for kidnapping a victim under the age of 14, he was extradited back to Ada County to face these local charges.
In January, Burley was found guilty by a jury of raping an adult victim in her own home Boise.
Burley has an extensive criminal history out of California, including sexual assault, kidnapping, robbery and drug offenses.
“You present an extreme danger not only to reoffend but to reoffend in a particularly aggravated and serious way,” said Ada County District Judge Patrick J. Miller. “I find the likelihood that you would ever be able to return to the community safely as very low.”
Judge Miller ordered imposed life in prison, with 30 years to be served before Burley is eligible for parole. A no contact order with the victim was put in place until 2050.
“I appreciate the victim having the courage to come forward,” said the Ada County Prosecutor. “Thank you to the Boise Police Department for their hard work on a case that took several years to bring to trial.”
